Apple, Amazon Forge Satellite Deal
Ars Technica·
Amazon has announced a significant expansion into the direct-to-device satellite market, entering into an agreement to become the primary satellite service provider for Apple's iPhones and Apple Watches. This deal, which follows Amazon's $11.6 billion merger with satellite operator Globalstar, will enhance existing emergency satellite features and pave the way for future collaborations. Apple's Greg Joswiak highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two tech giants, emphasizing the continuation of vital satellite services like Emergency SOS and Find My. Amazon aims to leverage its Leo satellite network to offer more advanced voice, data, and messaging services by 2028, positioning itself as a key competitor to SpaceX's Starlink.
