Book-tracking app Tome shuts down
TechCrunch·
Tome, a social app for book lovers and tracking reading progress, is ceasing operations on May 29 due to financial non-viability. Despite building a community of 100,000 users, largely influenced by TikTok's BookTok trend, the app could not sustain the costs associated with running a feature-rich social platform. Tome faced intense competition from numerous other book-tracking services, including Goodreads, making it difficult to achieve the necessary scale. The company is providing users instructions to download their data before the shutdown.
