DeepMind founder raises $1.1B for AI
TechCrunch·
Ineffable Intelligence, a new British AI lab founded by former DeepMind researcher David Silver, has secured $1.1 billion in funding at a $5.1 billion valuation. The company aims to develop a "superlearner" AI that can acquire knowledge and skills independently, without relying on human-generated data. This approach leverages reinforcement learning, Silver's area of expertise, similar to DeepMind's AlphaZero which mastered games like Go and chess through self-play. The substantial funding round, led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, signals strong investor confidence in novel AI model development beyond current large language models. Silver also announced that any personal profits from Ineffable will be donated to high-impact charities.
