Encrypted RCS messaging rolls out for Android, iPhone
Google Blog·
Google and Apple are collaborating to enable end-to-end encryption for Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging, enhancing privacy for cross-platform chats. This feature, replacing traditional SMS, will now be secured by default for both Android and iPhone users. Google Messages has offered similar encryption for Android-to-Android chats previously, but this expansion marks a significant step in securing communications between different operating systems. Users will see a lock icon to confirm when their conversations are end-to-end encrypted, with the rollout beginning in beta for specific versions of Android and iOS.
