Feds to Mandate Data Center Power Usage Disclosures

The U.S. Energy Information Agency (EIA) plans to require data centers to report their energy consumption details. This move follows a request from Senators Josh Hawley and Elizabeth Warren, aiming to address the significant and growing energy demands of the data center industry. The EIA will implement a mandatory nationwide survey after completing pilot programs in Texas, Washington, and the D.C.-Northern Virginia area. These pilot surveys are expected to conclude in September, paving the way for the development of the comprehensive data collection questionnaire.
