GitHub hackers stole thousands of internal repositories
TechCrunch·
GitHub confirmed a significant security breach where attackers accessed approximately 3,800 internal code repositories. The incident originated from a compromised employee device exploiting a vulnerable VS Code extension. While GitHub asserts no customer data outside its internal systems was affected, the investigation is ongoing. This attack highlights a growing trend of hackers targeting popular open-source tools and extensions to gain widespread access to developer projects and systems. A group known as TeamPCP has claimed responsibility for the breach, reportedly attempting to sell the stolen data on cybercrime forums.
