GM Develops Sodium-Ion Batteries for AI Grid Needs

General Motors is expanding into the energy storage market, developing advanced sodium-ion batteries to support AI data centers and grid stability. This move positions GM as a key player in addressing the substantial power requirements of AI infrastructure. The automaker is partnering with energy storage startup Peak Energy to deploy these batteries, which offer cost and safety advantages over traditional lithium-ion cells. GM is also enhancing its collaboration with Redwood Materials for battery recycling and second-life applications, further integrating its EV ecosystem with energy solutions.
