Google Maps uses AI for photo captions

Google Maps is integrating Gemini AI to automatically generate captions for user-submitted photos and videos. This feature analyzes images to suggest descriptive text, which users can then edit or discard, aiming to simplify content contribution. The tool is rolling out initially in English on iOS in the U.S., with broader global and Android availability planned. Additionally, Google is enhancing the user experience by allowing direct access to recent photos from the 'Contribute' tab and improving the visibility of user contributions and Local Guide achievements, including new gold-colored profiles for top contributors.
