Hacker avoids prison for accessing government systems
Ars Technica·
A 25-year-old Tennessee man, Nicholas Moore, has been sentenced to one year of probation for illegally accessing government computer systems and posting private information online. Moore pleaded guilty to unauthorized access of systems including the US Supreme Court's filing system, AmeriCorps, and the VA Health System. He used stolen credentials to obtain and then share personal data, including names, addresses, and medical information, on an Instagram account. The court cited Moore's vulnerability and acceptance of responsibility as reasons for not imposing jail time, opting instead for probation with special conditions.
