Judge blocks government blacklisting of AI firm Anthropic
Ars Technica·
A federal judge has ruled that the Department of War lacked the authority to blacklist AI company Anthropic, calling the action illegal First Amendment retaliation. The judge granted Anthropic a preliminary injunction, blocking agencies from complying with directives from Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth that designated the company a supply-chain risk. Anthropic argued the blacklisting, based on its public warnings about AI safety, unfairly harmed its business and blocked lucrative government contracts. While the injunction is temporarily stayed, the ruling is a significant victory for Anthropic in its dispute with government officials.
