Judge rules DOGE used ChatGPT illegally

A federal judge has ruled that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) unconstitutionally canceled over $100 million in grants. The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by humanities groups who challenged DOGE's grant elimination process. Specifically, the court found that DOGE improperly used OpenAI's ChatGPT to assess grant applications for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) criteria. This AI-driven decision-making was deemed illegal, as it relied on the mere presence of protected characteristics to disqualify funding. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) was also involved in the case.
