Lasers seal paper packaging, replacing glue

German researchers have developed a novel manufacturing process that uses a carbon monoxide laser to seal paper packaging, eliminating the need for traditional glue or plastic. This innovation, part of the Papure project, addresses a significant environmental concern in the packaging industry. Current paper packaging often incorporates adhesives that contaminate the recycling stream and degrade the quality of recycled paper. By employing laser technology, the new method promises to enhance the recyclability of paper-based materials, contributing to a more sustainable approach to packaging solutions and reducing waste.
