Lightning Network quantum threat debated
CoinDesk·
Recent claims that the Lightning Network is "helplessly broken" in a post-quantum world are being challenged. While quantum computers pose a theoretical long-term risk to cryptography, the immediate threat to Lightning Network funds is significantly narrower and more conditional than widely reported. The primary vulnerability arises during channel closures, requiring an attacker to solve complex mathematical problems within a limited timeframe to steal funds, rather than a passive, widespread risk. Furthermore, cryptographically relevant quantum computers capable of breaking current encryption standards do not exist and are projected to be decades away.
