NASA satellites detect GPS jammer in Iran
Ars Technica·
NASA satellites, originally designed for weather and Earth observation, have demonstrated a capability to locate GPS jammers. An experiment using the CYGNSS and NISAR satellite systems successfully identified the approximate location of a mysterious GPS jammer in Iran. While these satellites cannot provide real-time monitoring or exact pinpointing, their ability to detect the jammer's footprint and emissions offers valuable data for flight planning and identifying high-risk areas for navigation. CYGNSS proved more accurate in locating the jammer compared to NISAR in the conducted experiment.
