Neanderthal brains similar in size to humans
Ars Technica·
New research suggests that the physical size of Neanderthal brains was comparable to that of modern humans. While previous theories proposed differences in brain structure or organization might explain cognitive disparities, this finding indicates that any distinctions were likely more subtle. The study implies that the differences in cognitive abilities observed between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens may not be attributable to gross anatomical variations in brain size. Instead, researchers are exploring other factors that might have contributed to the evolutionary divergence in cognitive capabilities.
