Original developers revive SNES emulator with enhancements
Ars Technica·
The original creators of the ZSNES emulator have returned after nearly two decades to launch "Super ZSNES," a completely rewritten successor emphasizing significant audio-visual upgrades. This new emulator moves beyond basic filtering, incorporating features like widescreen support, texture mapping for higher resolution visuals, and the ability to use uncompressed audio samples for game soundtracks. It also adds true 3D effects to games using the Mode 7 graphics effect. Enhancements are developed per-game, with the initial release supporting seven popular titles, and tools are included for users to create their own. Super ZSNES is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android, with an iOS version planned.
