Raw cheese outbreak grows; 9 cases, one with kidney failure
Ars Technica·
An E. coli outbreak linked to unpasteurized cheese has expanded to nine cases across three states, with one individual developing severe kidney failure. The FDA reported the increase, noting that three cases required hospitalization. Raw Farm, the producer of the implicated products, denies any connection to the illnesses and has refused to issue a recall. Seven of the eight interviewed patients reported consuming Raw Farm products, specifically raw cheddar and raw milk. The outbreak disproportionately affects young children, who are more vulnerable to serious complications like Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS).
