Reddit requires human verification for suspicious accounts
Ars Technica·
Reddit is implementing a new policy requiring accounts exhibiting "automated or otherwise fishy behavior" to verify they are run by a human. This measure aims to combat the growing threat of bots, particularly AI-generated ones, that could flood the platform. While AI-generated content will still be permitted for now, the focus is on ensuring users know when they are interacting with a person. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated that human verification will be rare and triggered only when bot activity is suspected. The platform is exploring various verification methods, including passkeys and third-party biometric services like iris-scanning technology, with government ID services as a last resort.
