Roman Telescope launches early, under budget
Ars Technica·
NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is ready for its September launch, eight months ahead of schedule and under budget. Repurposed spy satellite hardware forms the core of this infrared observatory, designed for wide-field imaging. It will capture vast amounts of data daily, aiding in studies of the early universe and exoplanet atmospheres. The telescope features a Wide Field Instrument for broad sky surveys and a Coronagraph to directly image exoplanets by blocking starlight. This project highlights successful hardware repurposing and efficient project management within NASA.
