Russia addresses ISS space station cracks
Ars Technica·
Russia is reportedly preparing to undertake significant repairs on persistent cracks found in the International Space Station's (ISS) Zvezda service module. These leaks, first detected in 2019 and exacerbated by corrosion, have been a source of tension between NASA and Roscosmos. Recent attempts to seal the cracks intensified in early June, prompting NASA to briefly move astronauts to a safe haven due to concerns about potential structural failure. Russia's proposed repair methods, including drilling and potentially removing a load-bearing bracket, caused alarm at NASA, leading to a standoff. However, Russia has since agreed to further measurements, and NASA astronauts have returned to normal operations.
