Soldier arrested for betting on military raid
CoinDesk·
A U.S. Army Master Sergeant has been arrested for allegedly using classified information to place substantial bets on a military operation he was involved in. The soldier, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, is accused of wagering approximately $33,000 on Polymarket regarding the timing and outcome of the raid to detain former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. He reportedly profited around $400,000 from these bets, which he then converted to cryptocurrency and attempted to conceal. Federal prosecutors have charged him with unlawful use of confidential government information, theft of nonpublic information, and fraud, highlighting this as a clear case of insider trading.
