Startup offers hybrid electric-industrial heat
TechCrunch·
NOC Energy has developed an innovative electric heating system designed to integrate with existing fossil fuel-powered industrial plants, such as those in the cement and glass sectors. This hybrid approach allows companies to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels while maintaining flexibility and cost control, switching to electric heat when electricity prices are low. The system can achieve high temperatures up to 1,200°C and store heat for extended periods, enabling energy price arbitrage. NOC Energy recently secured $2.7 million in seed funding to further develop and deploy its technology, which uses induction heating to warm steel spheres, offering a durable alternative to traditional resistive heaters.
