Sun's life-ending impact on Earth timeline revised
Ars Technica·
New research utilizing a 3D model suggests life on Earth may persist for over 1.8 billion years, revising previous timelines. Scientists explored two scenarios based on the Sun's increasing brightness and its effect on atmospheric CO2 and weathering. In a 'weak weathering' scenario, extreme temperatures would render Earth uninhabitable for most land plants within 1.68 billion years. However, a 'strong weathering' scenario indicates CO2 could drop too low for photosynthesis, potentially ending plant life between 1.35 and 1.64 billion years, with some marine life surviving slightly longer.
