Uber expands into hotels, retail, and dining
TechCrunch·
Uber is accelerating its super app ambitions by integrating hotel bookings through a partnership with Expedia Group, offering access to over 700,000 properties. This move, alongside upcoming vacation rentals via Vrbo and restaurant reservations through OpenTable, aims to give users more reasons to stay within the Uber ecosystem. The company is also testing a "Shop for Me" feature for non-partnered stores. These expansions are driven by the need to leverage Uber's 199 million monthly active users and its subscription service, Uber One, by providing compelling discounts and a seamless user experience across various services, potentially challenging competitors like Airbnb and X.
