Uber, Nuro test robotaxis in San Francisco

Uber and Nuro have commenced testing of their premium robotaxi service in San Francisco, allowing select employees to hail rides via the Uber app. This initiative marks a significant step in their partnership, which includes Uber's substantial investment in Nuro and a commitment to purchase thousands of Lucid's Gravity SUVs equipped with Nuro's autonomous driving system. The vehicles utilize advanced sensor technology and Nvidia's Drive AGX Thor computer for navigation. While a public launch is planned for later this year, the current phase involves human safety operators and focuses on evaluating the autonomous system, vehicle performance, and rider experience in real-world conditions, particularly for complex pickup and drop-off scenarios.
