Volkswagen ends US ID.4 production for Atlas
Ars Technica·
Volkswagen is ceasing production of its ID.4 electric vehicle at its Tennessee factory, retooling the assembly line to build the gasoline-powered Atlas SUV. This strategic shift comes despite the ID.4's strong sales in 2025, which reportedly declined sharply after the abolition of clean vehicle tax credits. The automaker is betting on increased demand for SUVs, a decision potentially influenced by rising gasoline prices. Volkswagen assures sufficient ID.4 inventory for customers into 2027 and plans for a future ID.4 model, possibly rebadged, for the North American market. The Chattanooga plant remains a key part of VW's US strategy.
