Volvo gets US approval for connected cars
Ars Technica·
Volvo Cars has secured authorization from the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue importing connected vehicles into the United States. This exemption allows Volvo to bypass a ban targeting software with Chinese links, set to take effect for model year 2027. The Swedish automaker, partly owned by China's Geely Holding, successfully demonstrated its compliance with U.S. regulations regarding governance, technology, and data security. This decision sets a precedent, potentially opening the door for other automakers with Chinese ties to gain similar exemptions and enter the U.S. market.
