Weather firm forces users to new, subscription-based app
Ars Technica·
AcuRite, a weather-monitoring device company, is compelling customers to transition from its long-standing My AcuRite app to the newer AcuRite Now app by May 30th. This forced migration has sparked significant customer dissatisfaction due to perceived feature deficiencies in the new app, including the inability to rename sensors and less comprehensive data display. Furthermore, features previously available for free, such as data sharing with Weather Underground, now require a paid subscription. Despite AcuRite's potential aims to streamline its technology and introduce new revenue streams, the company risks alienating its user base with this abrupt change.
