X deploys scam kill switch for crypto mentions
CoinDesk·
X, formerly Twitter, is implementing a new security feature to combat crypto-related scams. The platform will now automatically lock accounts that mention cryptocurrency for the first time, requiring additional verification before they can post again. This measure aims to significantly reduce the incentive for scammers who hijack accounts to promote fraudulent tokens and phishing schemes. The move comes in response to a surge in phishing attacks using fake copyright notices and follows previous efforts by X to enhance security, including bot purges and API restrictions. Head of Product Nikita Bier criticized Google for its role in allowing phishing emails through Gmail.
