Brothers wipe government databases after firing
Ars Technica·
Twin brothers Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter are accused of deleting 96 US government databases minutes after being fired from their tech job. The brothers, who had prior convictions for wire fraud, allegedly used Muneeb's remaining access to wipe databases containing sensitive information, including federal tax data. Muneeb even consulted an AI tool on how to clear system logs after the destructive act. The incident highlights significant security risks associated with employee access post-termination, as the brothers' employer apparently failed to revoke Muneeb's credentials promptly.
