Canvas owner agrees with hackers over stolen data
The Verge·
Instructure, the company behind the Canvas learning platform, has reportedly reached an agreement with the ShinyHunters hacking group following a recent data breach. The hackers had claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened to release 3.5 terabytes of student data if their ransom demands were not met. Instructure announced that the stolen data has been returned as part of an unspecified agreement, and they have secured a promise that their customers will not be extorted. The incident briefly took Canvas offline, but the company is working to restore full services and assure users of their data's security.
