FCC extends router update waiver to 2029
Ars Technica·
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has extended a waiver allowing foreign-made routers and drones to receive software and firmware updates until January 1, 2029. This extension provides an additional two years beyond the previous March 2027 deadline, offering more time for devices previously authorized for sale in the U.S. to remain functional. The FCC is considering making this waiver permanent through a rulemaking process, aiming to balance national security concerns with the continued operability of existing consumer electronics.
