Linux faces second severe vulnerability
Ars Technica·
Linux systems are confronting a second critical security vulnerability in rapid succession, dubbed 'Dirty Frag.' This flaw allows low-privilege users and containers to gain root access, posing a significant threat, especially in shared hosting environments. Exploit code has been leaked, and Microsoft has observed early signs of exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability chains two kernel flaws, enabling attackers to modify memory-resident page caches, effectively corrupting files even with read-only access. While patches are being released by distributors like Debian, AlmaLinux, and Fedora, users are urged to apply them immediately to mitigate the risk of system compromise.
